Contents Restoration Made Simple

Contents or Personal Property, must be cleaned or stabilized within 72 hours of the fire or water loss to be effective.  Why?  Because of the corrosive nature of soot and water it must be neutralized.   Clothing can lose its tinsel strength, plastics can yellow, crystal can etch, and metal can pit and corrode.  The cost of replacing an item is usually more expensive than restorative cleaning & deodorizing.  It is in the best interest of all involved to begin Emergency Content Recovery immediately.  Sometimes this must be done before an adjuster can arrive.  We will process everything except for items in the source area.  We know that insurance companies do not want to pay for something to be cleaned THEN pay for it to be replaced.  So DRS through Contents Master offers a "NO Clean No Charge Guarantee" - We will only take items that we think can be recovered cost effectively.  If an item is not recoverable after cleaning, we do not charge for it.   We then add it to the "adjusters' replacement list".

Types of Contents Processed?

      - Upholstery or soft goods     - Hard furniture       - Porcelain figurines       - Electronics

      - Electric items       - Dishes          - Appliances                  - Toys              - Tools         - Pictures

       - Books/Documents

What is the Contents Restoration Process?

First, we determine if an item is worth restoring. Second, we inventory the items and do triage to determine the stabilization and restoration process. Third, we either clean on-site or pack for transport to our facility.  Fourth, in our facility, items are sorted by category, stabilized then started through the restoration process.

Each of the different types or categories of items are evaluated by the contents supervisor.  For example, Electronics are sorted by importance and taken to the electronics processing area.  It is put through a series of cleaning techniques and evaluated.  They are deodorized, detailed and inspected before being boxed.

Inventory, Packing and Storage

Before any item is removed from the property it is inventoried.  It is packed and tracked throughout the restoration process.  After it is ready to go back, we store it in a climate controlled warehouse.  When the structure is restored, we pack back the items.
